Norfolk in the weather
15th February 2026
This is my second visit to David Tipling's hide in North Norfolk. The weather could not have been more different to my last visit the previous September. Stunning sunshine before, rain, sleet, snow and a pervading gloom now.
All the same, as I keep saying, bad weather can make for interesting photos and a wide range of weather conditions meant that I left with plenty of shots of familiar birds in a more 'atmospheric' context.
The Sparrowhawk is the star attraction of this hide. Unfortunately, it didn't land on this visit. It did however treat us to a few close passes, flying very fast towards the hide and either going straight over the top of it, or doing a handbrake turn just in front. It was clearly hunting - great bird watching, if not ideal for photography.
The final treat of the day was the arrival of what has to be the most bedragged Buzzard I have ever seen.
If you'd like to book this hide yourself (and I'd highly recommend that you do!), you can find it here.
