Starlings

Starlings are small, sociable birds with short tails, pointed wings, and strong, straight beaks. Most types have shiny feathers that sometimes have spots or a glossy look. They are very social and gather in large groups, especially in autumn and winter when they roost together. They live in many different places, including forests, grasslands, and towns, where they use holes in trees or buildings to make their nests. They mainly eat insects but will also eat fruits and seeds. Their flight is direct and fast, and they make loud, chattering sounds that are easy to notice. Many starlings are good at copying sounds they hear. The Common Starling is found all over Britain, while other kinds live in different environments around the world.
