The kingdom Animalia encompasses a vast and diverse array of multicellular life, united by key traits that separate them from plants, fungi, and other organisms. All animals are heterotrophic, meaning they must consume other living things for energy, and their cells lack rigid cell walls, allowing for flexible movement. Most are capable of at least some motility during their life cycle, and they typically reproduce sexually. From a simple observational standpoint, if an organism moves purposefully to seek food and is composed of soft tissue, you are almost certainly looking at an animal.
