The genus Calidris comprises small to medium-sized wading birds commonly known as stints and sandpipers, representing some of the most challenging identification subjects for birdwatchers. These compact shorebirds typically measure between 12 and 21 centimetres in length, displaying relatively short necks, straight or slightly curved bills, and distinctive breeding and non-breeding plumages that can differ dramatically.
