Storks
order Ciconiiformes
Storks are large birds with long legs, known for their long necks and big, pointed beaks. Most have mainly white or black feathers, often with different patterns on their wings that you can see when they fly. Their long legs stretch out behind them when they are flying, and they fly with their necks stretched out straight, which makes them different from herons. Their beaks can be straight, slightly curved, or thick and wedge-shaped, depending on the type of stork. They live in temperate and tropical areas across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Storks are usually found in wetlands, grasslands, and open farmland. Many types travel long distances when moving between places where they breed and where they spend the winter. Storks are mostly quiet birds. They mainly make noise by clattering their beaks together, especially around their nests.
