Bovids
family Bovidae
The Bovidae family includes animals with hollow horns that are not branched and last for life. These horns have a core made of bone and are covered in a tough material. Unlike deer antlers, these horns do not fall off and are found in both males and females in most species, although males usually have larger horns. They have split hooves and a stomach with four parts, which helps them digest plants. Their bodies are usually strong and built for eating grass or leaves. These animals live in many different places such as grasslands, savannahs, mountains, and forests across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. They have also been introduced to other parts of the world. They come in many sizes, from small dik-diks to large bison. Their social lives vary a lot. Some live alone and eat leaves, while others form large groups that move together over long distances. In Britain, only domesticated or escaped animals from farms are found, such as cattle, sheep, and goats. Wild species can sometimes be seen in wildlife parks or collections.
