Black and Red Kites

Milvus kites are medium-sized birds of prey known for their distinctive forked tails, which are the easiest way to identify them when they are flying. These graceful birds have long, angled wings and fly with great skill, often gliding and flapping their wings gently. Their feathers are usually reddish-brown and brown, with lighter heads in most types. The group includes two closely related species found across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Both species are often seen near places altered by humans and are known for scavenging. This behaviour sets them apart from other kites, as they take advantage of food near villages and roads. Milvus kites live in open and partly open areas, such as farmland, woodland edges, and more often in towns and cities where food is easy to find. They tend to avoid thick forests and places without any trees.
