Members of the Corvus group are large, strong birds with sturdy beaks, strong legs, and feathers that are either completely black or black and white. These clever birds have rough feathers on their throats and tails that are either wedge-shaped or rounded when they fly. Most have dark feathers with a shiny look, but some have grey or white patches. Corvus birds live in a variety of places all over the world, except in South America and Antarctica. They can be found in cold Arctic areas, near deserts, in mountains, and in towns and cities. They prefer open or partly open areas, woodland edges, coastal regions, and places that have been changed by people. These birds are very social and can adjust well to different situations. They are good at solving problems and have a wide range of calls. They eat a variety of foods, including dead animals, insects, seeds, and rubbish. Their flight is strong and straight, often accompanied by their well-known croaking or cawing sounds. Some types of Corvus birds hide food for later and even use simple tools to help them.
