Old World Parakeets are medium-sized birds with long tails. They have graceful shapes and many species have distinctive rings around their necks. Most of these birds are mainly green with different colours on their faces and tails. Male birds usually have clear collar markings that are either missing or less obvious in females. There are about fifteen different types of these parakeets. They live in parts of Africa and Asia, from the Sahel region to Southeast Asia and Indonesia. These parakeets can be found in many places, such as tropical forests, woodlands, farms, and city parks. Several types have also formed wild populations in cooler areas, especially the Ring-necked Parakeet in Britain and parts of Europe. They are very social birds and often gather in large groups to rest together. Their strong, curved beaks are made for eating fruits, seeds, nuts, and flowers. When they fly, they move quickly and directly with fast wingbeats.
